“If enthusiasm is contagious, Christian Lindberg is an epidemic waiting to happen. Joining exceptional technique with exuberant theatricality, this Swedish trombonist-composer has more fun in a single piece than most musicians do in a season...he's a potent antidote to the stuffiness that still passes for seriousness at many a concert.” (Larry Fuchsberg from Star Tribune, Minneapolis/St Paul 2004)

The prophetic words of the prominent Swedish critic Leif Aare in Dagens Nyheter at the debut of Christian Lindberg in 1982:
“Nothing can stop this direct musical expression” have been proven right so many times during the development of this remarkable career. Twenty years later, the London Times wrote:
”The two most electrifying entities in contemporary music: Stravinsky´s Petroushka and Christian Lindberg.”

Since his debut Christian Lindberg appears regularly as soloist with the top orchestras and conductors all over the world.

He was the first Swedish instrumentalist ever to perform with the Berlin Philharmonics and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. An international poll voted him among the five greatest brass players of the 20th century together with Louis Armstrong, Miles Davies, Denis Brain and Maurice André. The internet site Podre de Pallabre names him among the greatest interpreters of classical music in the company of names like Fritz Kreisler, Arthur Rubinstein, Mstislav Rostropovich, David Oistrach and James Galway. The internet Encyclopedia Wikipedia mentions Christian Lindberg as one of the greatest Swedish musical personalities of all times
together with Franz Berwald, Jenny Lind, Jussi Björling and ABBA. The international competition “The Christian Lindberg International Trombone Competition in Valencia, Spain”, is named after him. In addition to this Christian Lindberg holds the honorary title Prince Consort Professor of Trombone at the Royal College of Music in London and has been awarded the prestigious medal Litteris et Artibus by the Swedish King in 2005.

Christian Lindberg´s artistry and virtuosity has inspired some of the greatest names within contemporary music to compose major works specially for him. Composers such as Berio, Xenakis, Takemitsu and Turnage are among the composers of the more than 80 trombone concerti that have been dedicated to Christian Lindberg who has given more than 200 compositions altogether their first performances.
Christian Lindberg has so far recorded 66 CDs for labels like BIS, EMI, Decca, Deutsche Gramophone, ECM etc.

In addition to this unparalleled achievement of establishing the trombone as a solo instrument, Christian Lindberg has recently embarked on two sideline careers which are taking more and more of his time:

As a conductor he was asked to take on the chief conductorship of the second and the fourth orchestras he ever conducted. Both the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and the Swedish Wind Ensemble have now unanimously prolonged their contracts with Christian Lindberg as their chief conductor. He has conducted orchestras like the Helsinki Philharmonics, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Jena Philharmonics, Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Maggio Fiorentino, Prague Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonia Krakowia.

Active as a composer for only five years so far, Christian has received commissions to write for, among others, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Choir, Orchestra Verdi in Milano, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra just to mention a few.
