Conductors

Alongside his activities as soloist and composer, Christian Lindberg now focuses mainly on his career as conductor. He has conducted orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Poznañ Philharmonic Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Basque National Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonics, Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. He was the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s profile artist in the seaon 2011/12 with 3 major productions.

As principal conductor and artistic advisor of the newly established Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, an orchestra with strong support from the Norwegian government, Christian Lindberg has conducted staged productions of Carmen and Bohème as well as taken the orchestra on several tours including a concert in the Mariinsky Concert Hall in St Petersburg upon invitation from Valery Gergiev. The orchestra has just signed Christian up for another period until 2016.

Future guest conducting engagements include concerts with the Ulster Orchestra, SWR Stuttgart, Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra, and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra as well as a reinvitation to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonics for a two week residency period including two symphonic productions, a concert with a contempory ensemble and a masterclass for “el sistema”-pupils and a recital. Other reinvitations are Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Brazilian National Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, RTE National Symphony of Ireland, Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra and Nürnberg Symphony Orchestra. He will also conduct a programme containing his own composition Waves of Wollongon for 9 Trombones and Symphony Orchestra and Sibelius Symphony No. 2 in Melbourne, Australia.

Christian Lindberg’s recordings conducting the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and the Swedish Wind Ensemble and the Arctic Philharmonic have received outstanding reviews and international distinctions. Future recording plans with BIS include the completion of the label’s series of the symphonies by Allan Pettersson with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, as well as projects with the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra.
