Erich Polz

Erich Polz is a conductor and passionate musician from Austria. Born in Styria, the son of a famous vintner discovered his love for music very early in life. However the family business directed his education for years. In the course of an internship in Burgundy (France), Erich Polz realized that his true love lies with music rather than with the grapes.

So he decided to take the entrance audition at the Vienna Conservatory, whre he completed his studies under Prof. Georg Mark with honors and subsequently gained his first experiences behind the conductor’s stand with the Viennese Orchestra „Wiener Konzertvereinigung“. During a scholarship with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra he was able to assist such names as Sir Colin Davis, David Afkham and Daniele Gatti.

In 2013 he deputed with his newly founded chamber orchestra „Modus 21“, which consists of musicians, who have successfully played with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. With „Modus 21“ the young conductor devotes himself to the classical repertoire as well as contemporary literature.
Since 2013, Erich Polz is the musical assistant and choirmaster in the team of the “Tyrolean Festival of Erl” under Maestro Gustav Kuhn. In the summer season of 2014 he conducted the production rehearsals of „Der Ring des Nibelungen“ and appeared as a conductor in the opening ceremony of the festival. In the winter season of 2014/15 Erich Polz headed his first entire opera evening at the Erl Festival. In the upcomung summer he will remain Maestro Kuhn’s assistent for the productions of „Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“ and „Tristan und Isolde“.

His credo „Don’t rush things. Let everything grow organically!“ surmises that the young conductor will always be the son of a vintner at heart.
