Born in Paris from musician parents, Jean Paul Gapsarian is unanimously accepted at the CNSM of Paris at age 14, where he brilliantly obtains his Master’s degree in 2015. His teachers are Olivier Gardon, Jacques Rouvier, Michel Béroff, Laurent Cabasso, Bertrand Chamayou and Tatiana Zelikman. Since 2015, he follows regular masterclasses with Elisso Virsaladze and is currently working under the guidance of Michel Dalberto and Claire Désert in Paris CNSM (Artist Diploma).
He is the winner of the prestigious European Contest of Brême (Germany) in 2014, and has been a laureate at many other international competitions including José Iturbi (Spain) in 2015, Lyon (France), Tel-Haï (Israël) and Hastings (England) in 2013, and semi-finalist of the Géza Anda competition in 2015. He received the Salzburg Academy Prize in 2010, the Cziffra Foundation Prize in 2014 and became laureate of the l'Or du Rhin Foundation in september 2016.
Moreover, he receives the 1st Prize of Philosophy at the General High school Contest in France in 2013.
Among the orchestras that accompanied him as a soloist, we can list the Orchestre National d'Ile-de-France, the Bremen Philarmonic Orchestra, Musikkollegium of Winterthur, the Rouen Opera Orchestra, the Regional Orchestra of Normandy, the Republican Guard, the Serbian Radio-Television Orchestra, the Montenegro Symphonic Orchestra, the Murcia Symphonic Orchestra, the Valencia Orchestra, the Caen Symphonic Orchestra, the Alliance Orchestra, the Ostinato Orchestra. He was accompanied in Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns, Tchaïkovski, Rachmaninov and Gershwin concertos, under the batons of conductors like Jean Deroyer, Jean-Pierre Wallez, Debora Waldman, Daniel Smith, Mark Korovic, Nicolas Milton, Jean-Pierre Haeck, Sébastien Billard, Pierre Dumoussaud, Jean-Luc Tingaud, Bojan Sudic, Virginia Martinez.
He played in important venues - the Salle Gaveau, Salle Cortot, Louis Vuitton Foundation (broadcasted live on Radio Classique), Zurich Tonhalle, Bremen Die Glocke, Salzburg Mozarteum, Tel-Aviv Museum of Modern Art, Belgrade's Kolarac (ArtLink Festival), in festivals such as the Roque d'Anthéron, Flâneries de Reims (broadcasted live on Medici.tv), Piano Folies du Touquet, Chopin Festival of Bagatelle, Nohant Chopin Festival, Automne Musical de Taverny, l'Eure Poétique et Musicale, Nancyphonies, as well as two times in the “Génération jeunes interprètes” program with Gaëlle Le Gallic, on France Musique Radio.
In 2017 he will be part of the Rouen Opera season, and will offer recitals in Europe (Germany, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland) and in France. He will also be reinvited by the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra in february to play Rachmaninov's Paganini Variations and will have a tour with the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra (Bach and Mozart concertos).
Moreover, the Nohant Chopin Festival just released a CD dedicated to Aldo Ciccolini, which also includes Schumann’s G minor sonata recorded live by Jean Paul Gasparian in 2015.
