Made up of four women who studied at the Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik in Weimar, the Klenke Quartet made its debut in 1994.
With the artistic assistance of important misicians like Ulrich Beetz (Abegg Trio), Norbert Brainin (Amadeus Quartet), Sándor Devich (Bartók Quartet) and Harald Schoneweg (Cherubini Quartet), the Klenke Quartet won numerous prizes at the International Max Reger Chamber Music Comopetition, the international string quartet competition of the Munich Konzertgesellschaft and the German Music Competition.
A place among the winners in the 41st national selection for the German Music Council's concert series »Konzerte junger Künstler« marked the beginning of the four musicians' international concert career. They have since performed in many European countries and in North and South America, as well as at the Mecklenburg-West Pomeranian Festival, the Bad Kissingen Musiksommer, the Würzburg Mozartfest, the Rheingau Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. In 2003, at the invitation of the President of Germany, the ensemble accompanied him on state visits to Mexico, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil.
The Klenke Quartet has performed for important European and American broadcasting corporations, and is particulary associated with SWR. Its most recent SWR production of works by Karl Goldmark and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy was released on CD on the Hänssler label and has received high praise from the press.
