Per-Otto Johansson

Swedish-born conductor Per-Otto Johansson whos education formed the foundations for a stellar career in classical music embarked on his studies at Malmö Academy of Music. During this period, Johansson also attended masterclasses with the renowned Kurt Sanderling, Piere Boulez, Esa- Pekka Salonen and Manfred Honeck. Johansson graduated with distinction from Prof. Michel Tabachnik’s conducting class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2003.

Since those early days, Johansson has worked tirelessly to build on his knowledge, and capture the spirit of the music he so dearly loves. His work is uncompromising in its artistic approach; this is why so many of the world's premiere orchestras are eager to play under his baton.

Mr Johansson started with conducting 'Guldringen', based on Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelungen. In the season that followed, Johansson worked with the Danish National Opera in a performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute, and captivated audiences with a breathtakingly performance.
2010 was another momentous year for Johansson; it was one that heralded his debut with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (the national orchestra of Sweden). The event organizers were so impressed with Johansson's performance, they instantly invited him to return the next season. Come the spring of 2011, Johansson was back at the Danish National Opera for a fresh, ambitious and highly acclaimed production of The Barber of Seville. Here, he led epic performances with all five regional orchestras of Denmark. The response from public and critics alike was overwhelmingly positive.

Consistently imbued with the energy and ambition to work on fresh projects, Johansson rarely finds the time to put down his baton. Per-Otto has been conducting about 50 opera productions around the world. He always strives to find a gentle balance between singers and the interaction between stage-management and music. In 2015, Maskarade at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen had its premier with Mr Johansson as conductor. Mr Johansson has become a highly wanted conductor among Dutch, Belgian and Danish orchestras.

During 2017/18 Mr Johansson did conduct L’Elixir d´amore by Donizetti at the Danish National opera. During the same period Mr Johansson conducted Die Lustige Witwe at Stockholm Opera and so even concerts in Holland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden.
Hereafter Per-Otto Johansson will work a lot with different Dutch orchestras, so even Swedish and Danish. He will work with different types of music and composers. Mr Johansson will conduct at Copenhagen philharmonic orchestra and at Stockholm opera in forthcoming season.
