The Storioni Trio offers works for piano trio, ranging from the Classical to the Contemporary, from Haydn to Henze. The trio is a leading expert in the triple concerto repertoire (Beethoven, Casella, Juon, Martinu, Moór, Vorísek). They commissioned and premiered triple concertos and piano trio's by Kevin Volans, Peter-Jan Wagemans, Nico Muhly, Willem Jeths, Kalevi Aho, Jörg Widmann and Maxim Shalygin.
The trio’s rehearsals are as probing as their performances, both serving in the quest ‘to go beyond the music and tell the story’.
The Storioni Trio recently performed Beethoven’s complete piano trios in Switzerland and the Netherlands, on period and modern instruments. The recording of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto on period instruments with the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra (Jan Willem de Vriend) received international critical acclaim, with rave reviews in the Sunday Times, Fono Forum and Gramophone Magazine. The latter made it its Editors Choice July 2013 and BBC Radio3 featured the recording as CD of the Week.
‘A close-knit, animated ensemble in sound and interpretative intent. Those who might not count the Triple Concerto among Beethoven’s finest works could well be swayed by this intelligently balanced, beautifully played performance.’ –Gramophone
The Storioni Trio is Artistic Director of the Storioni Festival in The Netherlands. The 12th edition, in May 2019, will again see top international musicians and upcoming talented musicians joining the trio. Recent editions have welcomed guests such as Gidon Kremer, Vadim Repin, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Nelly Miriciou, Natalia Gutman, Mischa Maisky, Sol Gabetta and Jörg Widmann. In addition, the Storioni Festival presents at least one yearly commission for a new triple concerto or work for piano trio.
The Storioni Trio has been invited to Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall and to festivals such as Kuhmo, Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival, Osnabrück Kammermusiktage and Trio Festival in the Philharmonie Moscow. Several tours led the trio to India, the Middle East, Australia, Taiwan, Japan and the United States.
