Het Nationale Ballet and Het Orkest van het Nationale Ballet have announced the appointment per 1 January 2013 of their new Music Director and Chief Conductor.
Matthew Rowe: “I am thrilled to have been appointed Dutch National Ballet’s next Musical Director and the Principal Conductor of the newly formed, Orchestra of Dutch National Ballet.
Having worked together many times over the past eight years, we already know each other well, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to deepen and strengthen the close ties we have established. These two great organisations play a significant role in Dutch cultural life and it is my goal to draw them into an even closer partnership in the future.
The past few years have been extraordinarily challenging for arts organisations in Holland, none more so than for Holland Symfonia and Dutch National Ballet. I would like to pay tribute to my predecessors, Ermanno Florio and Otto Tausk who have done such marvellous work and helped to steer the ballet company and orchestra through some very difficult times.
My greatest passion and interest is for collaborative art forms, so I am particularly excited by the prospect of bringing these musicians and dancers to an even greater level of understanding and awareness. Ted Brandsen and his team have great visions for the coming seasons and it will be a joy and a privilege to immerse myself in these inspiring productions and projects.”
