the stage will be graced by the Storioni Trio, who will be joined by the Turun filharmoninen orkesteri | Turku Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Jac van Steen.

PROGRAM:

Ida Moberg: Soluppgång [Sunrise]

Sebastian Fagerlund: Lanterna - 7 Settings for Violin, Cello, Piano and Symphony Orchestra (length 23')

Intermission

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 1 in C minor

Here, they give the world premiere of Fagerlund’s triple concerto. “The slow fifth movement of the concert is its musical core, a moment of light. The other movements are at varying distances from the light, like the light from a lantern at sea varies and wanes according to distance, the weather and the waves,” Fagerlund explains. The programme begins with the melodic tone poem Soluppgång [Sunrise] by Ida Moberg, a contemporary of Sibelius. Bruckner’s profuse Symphony concludes the programme.

INFO on Sebastian Fagerlund:

In season 2016-2017 Sebastian Fagerlund (1972) has been the Concertgebouw's second composer in residence; a long tradition at the Concertgebouw of developing and presenting newly composed music is thus continued. During his residency Fagerlund has been composing music inspired by the city Amsterdam. He wrote his 2nd string quartet “From the Ground” (2017) and the symphony “Water Atlas” (2018). The last piece has been performed in the Concertgebouw by the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Osmo Vänskä.

In 2021, BIS records released the cello concerto of Sebastian Fagerlund with Nicolas Altstaedt and the Finnish Radio Symphony. This is a link to the recording:

In 2023 Fagerlund was asked to write a triple concerto for the Storioni Trio. It is a co-commission from the Turku Philharmonic and the Residentie Orchestra The Hague.
