Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk 2023 for Nicolò Foron

The young German-Italian conductor Nicolò Umberto Foron receives the Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk, 29 August at the Musikfest Bremen 2023. In addition to a CD production, the prize includes a concert evening at the Musikfest Bremen 2024 together with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

Press message 1 August 2023

Born in Genoa in 1998 and raised in Bielefeld, Foron convinced the Deutschlandfunk music editors and the Musikfest Bremen management with his natural musicality, his infectious energy, his clever and analytical approach to the score and his already immense wealth of experience.

At the age of eleven, Nicolò Umberto Foron became a student of the famous Finnish conducting teacher Jorma Panula. After his first studies as a pianist with the legendary piano teacher Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Hanover Musikhochschule, he took up conducting studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam at the age of 16, followed by a master's degree at the Royal College of Music and the concert exam at the age of 21 at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Foron conducts the orchestras with great concentration, precision, a complete focus on the orchestra, free of airs and graces, with controlled passion and focused energy, interpreting a wide range of music from the classical to the romantic and classical modern to contemporary works. Foron has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, where he is currently Assistant Conductor, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, the Flanders Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble Intercontemporain. Future concerts will take him to the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Philharmonic Orchestra Freiburg, the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt, the Orchestre national Avignon-Provence, the Orchestre de l'Opéra national de Lorraine and the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France.
