Alejandro Cantalapiedra joins Interartists Amsterdam for general management

We are very pleased to announce that the Spanish conductor Alejandro Cantalapiedra joins Interartists Amsterdam for worldwide representation.

Alejandro Cantalapiedra (1994) is raising attention already as an architect of sound. His structural vision of musical works combined with charismatic musicianship enable him to give special character to the great symphonic repertoire.

As of the 2023-24 season, he is assistant conductor to the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and to Dutch National Opera. Alejandro will assist chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti in all his symphonic programmes with the Netherlands Philharmonic and during the productions of Wagner's Lohengrin and Puccini's Il trittico at Dutch National Opera. He will also assist Sir Mark Elder's in concerts in January 2024 and honorary conductor Hartmut Haenchen in February 2024.

In the summer of 2022, Alejandro already made his debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and Toonkunstkoor Amsterdam.

Alejandro won the first prize at the II International Conducting Competition in Estoril, where he worked with the Orquestra de Camara de Cascais e Oeiras as guest conductor, as well as with the Varna Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2022, he has been assisting at Dutch National Opera in the productions of Salome, Königskinder and Der Freischütz, assisting Cornelius Meister, Marc Albrecht and Patrick Hahn and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic.

He has been chief conductor of Utrecht Young Orchestra since 2019 and was chief conductor and founder of the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid from 2016-2023.

With his great energy, he has guided the orchestras to performances of Beethoven’s Eroica and Symphony no. 9 and Mahler’s Symphony no. 2 at the National Auditorium of Spain, receiving overwhelming acclaim from the audience and the press.

A very warm welcome, Alejandro!
